TEQUILA SUNRISE

The modern drink originates from Sausalito, California, in the early 1970s, after an earlier one created in the 1930s in Phoenix, Arizona. The cocktail is named for its appearance when served, with gradations of colors resembling a sunrise.

Ingredients

  • 1 ½ oz. tequila
  • ¾ cup orange juice
  • ¾ oz. grenadine syrup
  • Orange slice, for garnish
  • Maraschino cherry, for garnish

Preparation

  1. In a highball glass filled with ice, pour in the tequila and orange juice.
  2. Slowly pour the grenadine into the glass by drizzling it down the side of the glass, allowing it to settle at the bottom.
  3. Garnish with an orange slice and maraschino cherry.
